At 1,933 m above sea level, the highest dam in Austria is located: the Kölnbrein dam. Even the journey to the dam is a small adventure: an adventurous journey on the 14.4 km long Malta Hochalmstraße, characterized by rock tunnels and hairpin bends.
The numerous waterfalls along the Malta Hochalmstraße also give the Malta Valley the name “Valley of the Falling Waters”.
The road is characterized by rock-cut natural stone tunnels and sharp bends, which make the journey a pleasure for car and motorcyclists. At the narrowest points, two traffic lights ensure the safety of our guests. You can leave your car in the car park at the end of the road, from where you can easily reach the other attractions on foot, such as the sky bridge at the dam.
